Prayer Shawls

Normally I don't really bother to look at the inside labels that I peel off my yarn, but a few weeks ago I noticed there was a little blurb about the Prayer Shawl Ministry.  I had heard about prayer shawls before but didn't really know much about them.  As I read about it I got really interested in the idea.  Basically, it's the knitting or crocheting of a shawl that will be given to a person who is going through medical treatments and may need comfort.  While you knit the shawl, you say prayers and think healing thoughts.  I just finished my first one!  I made it for the Making Strides Breast Cancer walk that I mentioned in my last post.  I have no idea who will receive it, but it doesn't matter.  Hopefully the woman that wears it will feel comfort an know that it was made with care and love.  So not only will the money that my mom's friend makes by auctioning it off go towards cancer research, but it will give comfort to someone who needs it.  That makes me feel very happy and know that I am actually doing something.  Here's the finished product!
I used a pattern of knit one purl one, then knitting an entire row.  I think it looks pretty.  And I've tried it on, it is very warm and soft.  I hope that it gives some comfort and healing energy to someone that needs it.  I still have plenty of yarn left, so hopefully I will be able to make a scarf too before the auction.
